Sanjeev Sabhlok's sudden love affair with Baba Ramdev

Since I have already provided a strong riposte to the kind of  ideological and political rubbish that is spewed by FTI's idiotic founder Sanjeev Sabhlok in the name of Capitalism, freedom and liberty, I will not spend more time in exposing more of  the specifics of Sanjeev Sabhlok's buffoonery.

I long ago realized the futility of engaging in polemic and refutation exercises with a delusive character like him.

I even stopped following the FTI and the antics and acrobatics of Sanjeev Sabhlok till Arvind Iyer mentioned about his visit to India in an email.

I was not wrong in dismissing Sanjeev Sabhlok as a 'Liberal' hypocrite, who has ultimately cosied upto the Hindu sectarian buffoon, Baba Ramdev and is also trying to mend fences with Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)

Let's hear the pathetic and hollow apologies from SanjeevSabhlok about Ramdev:

"Swami Ramdev is merely spreading the best that is found in Indian systems. There is TOTAL integrity in his systems (which are operated entirely by Acharya Balakrishna, who is not a sanyasi but brahmachari)."

"I've satisfied myself entirely that Swami Ramdev is totally above board."

How?? Sanjeev Sabhlok has not cared to explain and has only made a vague promise to publish his findings about Ramdev.

I would have expressed more views about the hypocrisy of Sanjeev Sabhlok and his selfish politics of co-habitation with reactionaries like Baba Ramdev.

But the following comment on his own blog post better sums up the truth and reality of Sanjeev Sabhlok and FTI's political misadventure in India.

Why SKC disagrees with Sanjeev Sabhlok on "Islam"

Dear Brother Stalin

The topic is Brother Sanjeev Sabhlok's recently developed love for Bajrang Dal and his recent hatred for Islam.

Those of us who know him for so many years as a humanist, liberal and broadminded person are worried by his conversion to right wing Hindu fascism under influence of Baba Ramdev.

At SKC we must decide if we collectively agree or disagree with the public statements of Sanjeev Sabhlok on Islam.  SKC is going to be fighting Parliamentary elections in 2014 we have to be clear if Brother Sanjeev's opinions can be included in our manifestos.

Islam – a religion that seems to have NO HUMANITY AT ALL.

Brother Sanjeev (blinded by ego and maya) perhaps does not yet realise that Baba Ramdev is well known in police circles to be a seasoned Anand Margi with a terror agenda whose yoga centres and shops are used as revolutionary outlets .

SKC's local sources report FTI 4 June rally is "Baba Ramdev production" with thousands of hired extras from Hanuman Mandir (time of Tuesday afternoon was chosen for this purpose) and nearby Jamuna Pushta slums.

A well-intentioned Indian asked a few questions today. I have replied. Since both the question and answer may be relevant to some people, I'm publishing them both.

QUESTION

Firstly, what is SKC – a political party? a pressure group?
The website under "About Us" talks of Head Office first and National Reform Summit under Activities, without mentioning what is SKC in the first place and how it will implement its agenda.

Even if the SKC agenda is alright, is there a need for SKC in the first place? Isn't FTI itself good enough? You could have simply diluted the LIBERAL stance of FTI if at all it was necessary.

Now, SKC is perhaps backed by people like Baba Ramdev (or is it the other way around?) And it is debatable whether such people are both secular and liberal e.g. Baba Ramdev has aired his anti-MNC view several times.

Also, now with a proliferation of organisations and movements, there is too much confusion even in basic statements. You say SKCF was formed after NRS, when the NRS invite itself was on SKC website.

MY RESPONSE

FTI is PURELY meant for liberal leaders. It does not (under any circumstance) accept someone who doesn't promote liberty. It will never become a political party. It is the driver of all these activities that you see.

NRS was organised primarily by FTI but in collaboration with BST and others. We were the promoter of the idea, we organised it, and were supported by Swami Ramev. Without his assistance NRS could never have been held. India must be eternally grateful to Swami Ramdev's large heart that he engages with a wide range of good people.

We had created SKCF in end-March IN ANTICIPATION of approval by NRS. Its real beginning was only when NRS participants voted to join it.

SKCF is a FEDERATION. FTI is its secretary. Please read its trust deed. It is an aggregator of individuals, NGOs, political parties and companies that want reform. For the first year its membership is free.

SKCF is now organising this Sone Ki Chidiya movement. It is running on the work of FTI (not Swami Ramdev, although I hope he supports this work: I have the most cordial relationship with him). We do not intend to have a one-off event. This is a sustained movement.

Just like FTI will not come to an end, so also SKCF will not come to an end. The task at hand for these organisations is perennial. SKCF, because it allows a wider range of people to participate, is NOT entirely liberal. In fact, even on FTI there are debates about liberalism. Liberalism is not something like a Bible. It is a way of thinking about things. It is like the scientific method. Its conclusions can change over time, within a fairly wide ambit. SKCF is largely liberal. It will accommodate somewhat illiberal threads to the extent the overall agenda is not adversely affected. It is about taking the message of good governance to India, and such things can't be done "perfectly". There has to be some give and take.

You had previously mentioned to us that your proposed methodology for "Total Reform of India" is for a National Mentors Council and you have in mind people like Baba Ramdev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Swami Om Poorna Swatantra to be on this council.

SKC does not agree with your approach.

Who wrote that and to whom? Me to Sanjeev Sabhlok. Why?

Well, on his website he published allegations against himself and his father of (that time honoured past-time of the Provincial Bureaucrat from his particular caste and mentality) raping children- AN ALLEGATION HE DID NOT DENY- OR EVEN RESENT! No doubt, Sabhlok thought he was being very clever. He hadn't told a lie and believed that I could be prosecuted for threatening his life just because I said I'd fuck him over and smash his ugly face in and rip various organs out of his chest.

Sadly, the Law does not operate in the way Sabhlok thinks. It is entirely proper for me, a man whom he states in the same blog-post to have been very helpful and intelligent, to address him familiarly and to express my disgust and hatred for his and his father's raping of children. I said I'd kill him myself. As a Hindu, I believe it is usual for people of my station to use such terms as I employed to him to mark my extreme disapprobation of his conduct and my feeling of revulsion and hatred for him and his father.

Was Sabhlok- who tells us he automatically deleted my comments- being disingenuous when he stated that what I said to him in a comment on his blog was a 'Death Threat'? Or was there something more sinister afoot?

By my bringing the child rape charge out into the open now rather than when those best able to prosecute this cunt were fully prepared, was Sabhlok trying to minimize the damage to himself and his family? If so, his strategy has backfired.

I am not a lawyer or a police-man nor have I the means or the empathic skills to counsel the victims of Sabhlok's crimes.
A senior person contacted me about Sabhlok after he published his unmanly anti-Iyer idiocy. He hastened to assure me that he had the lowest opinion of Sanjeev Sabhlok's intellect and integrity. But were the allegations true?

I append this email exchange with someone Sabhlok professes to admire and which, incidentally, I posted on Sabhlok's blog as a comment but, sadly, like everything not conforming to his World View,  you won't find there now.

I regarded Sanjeev Sabhlok as a harmless nit-wit till he angered the son of a friend of mine, a distinguished lady who had made the mistake of trying to reason with that nit-wit on his execrable blog. Rather than let the younger man- an Economist currently visiting South Asia- get involved himself, I rattled Sabhlok's cage with the sort of information which comes only too readily to hand for someone of my connections. I didn't really have much hope that Sabhlok would be foolish enough to publish my comments as he edits out anything which is unflattering to himself. My gamble paid off, because it turns out he has a delusive self image as some sort of martyr of sufficient significance to receive death threats. I thought it worthwhile to pile on the pressure- not so much to make the coward squirm- but in the hope that he will be foolish enough to take legal action or issue a police complaint- both of which gives me locus standi and removes the danger of libel action for the third party I am concerned with. Since , Sabhlok is literally incapable of telling the truth any statement of his would be sufficient to convict him of perjury, bad faith and- since he is bound to dig himself deeper into the mess- a criminal conspiracy to defeat the ends of justice.

I suppose Sabhlok represents a particular type of what Alok Rai called the 'damaged modernity- at once embryonic and addled' or the provincial Indian Babu class. I recall reading a novel some ten or so years ago about an Indian bureaucrat- one engaged in extracting bribes out of Schools which don't have the regulation amount of play-ground space- who is also a sexual pervert who preys on little girls. Perhaps, there is some deeper depth psychological connection between a hateful perversion of that description and Alok Rai's comic 'damaged modernity'. What is certain is that a man like Sabhlok does a great dis-service to the liberal cause by his antics. He is now a sort of chamcha of Baba Ramdev.

Sanjeev Sabhlok's hypocrisy

In yet another example of Brother Sanjeev Sabhlok's blatant hypocrisy (forwarded to us through FTI's disciplinary group), SKC' is amused to find that Sanjeev (for all his capitalist pretensions) is actually a card-carrying SOCIALIST.

Please see some of the 10 points contained in FTI's pamphlet to be distributed on 4th June at the Ramlila grounds.

1. Security for everyone, particularly women, and quick justice for all. (Classic socialism, in a capitalist society it would be security to those who can afford it to the extent they can afford it).

2. Removal of obstructions on production and trade (Classic Marxian Socialism, in a capitalist society production is controlled to maximize profits)

3. Better prices for farmers without increasing food costs (Is this anything except pure socialism ?)

And the final icing on Sanjeev Sabhlok's COMMUNIST cake ?

4. Total elimination of poverty in three years through targeted negative income tax. (Liar Liar pants on fire), in other words "subsidies"
